L03: D2- Demonstrate Control And Manipulation Of The Audio Of The Film.

 When editing my film in post production it is important to control and manipulate the sound in order to get the correct tone and atmosphere you aimed to create for the film. However, this is also important in any kind of film, as the music and sounds are used to advance the effectiveness of the film or can sometimes be the main part of the film that audience members enjoy the most.

MIXING 

When I was editing the sound for the film, the first thing I did was make sure the speech from my film was stronger, as from the raw footage the actors were quite due to background noise and music being played in the car. The tools and platform that I used to do this at first was Adobe Audition. The reason why used this was to separate speech from background noises. Once I had done this the first thing I did was enhance the vocals from my actors to make them overlap any background noise. However, once I had imported the new vocals onto Premiere again the music that would 100% have us copyrighted was louder. In order to get this fixed the first thing I did was use the effect compressor, and De noise. The reason why I did this was because it would help me remove even more background noise (specifically background vocals). This greatly improved my film, as the vocals of my actors could be heard much better. 

Music 

For my music I used an app called BandLab which allowed me to create my own piece of music either with copy right free samples, or the option to make my own with what I have available at home. The song that I used for my film was inspired by the song used in Top Gear "Jessica" which was created in 1977. Whereas the introduction I made was a British punk rock tune similar to what you would hear from the late 90s to the early 00s. The soundtrack itself does not feature any lyrics, which allowed me to keep it all simple and just focus on how effective I am going to make the soundtrack for the film. The additional add ons i made to my soundtrack was by editing the amplifier by increasing the gain and volume.

M2: Evidence of Applying Appropriate Visual Affects And Transitions

 Transitions 

Throughout the entirety of my film, there is a limited amount of transitions that get used in the film.

The only reason why I edited transitions into my film the first place, was when editing I realised the introduction to my film was too bland and not as creative. By changing this I added in transitions that would fit perfectly in the required scenes.

 

The scenes that had transitions fitted into it was the introduction and the ending of the film. The reason why I chose to have them to have transitions added into it was because it gives a clear understanding of when the start of the film is and when it ends. Another reason why these transitions are effective, is because they blend in well with the clip that will change to the title introduction. The reason why I picked the swirl effect, was because runs smoothly with the end of the music playing at the start along with the footage that is shown at the start.

Hue/Saturation 

Whilst I was watching through my edited footage, I soon noticed the car wasn't as appealing due to the shaded out colours on the exterior of the car. The reason why I wanted to change this, was because it makes the car more appealing to an audience, along with making the background itself have more life to it. The reason why this was effective, was because it shows not only improving footage with editing, but it also brings better quality and attention bringing for those who are watching the short film. 

Changing the Hue and saturation to my clips, was quite simple as I only needed to click and drag the effect onto the chosen clips. This saved me a lot of time with being able to carry on doing the edits that are required.

Brightness and Contrast 

Another effect that was brought into the editing parts of my film was brightness and contrast. The reason why I added in this effect, was because most of the film was too dark in some scenes of the film and had to be given slight adjustments to make them easily viewable to the audience. 

The benefit of this, shows the more technical side of the film instead of having it all finalised in raw footage. Also, for most car shows it is important to to create or advance scenery and the cars around it as the audience prefer scenes that would keep their attention due to how appealing it is to them, rather than an unedited clip that is barely visible. 

Zooming in on shots 

The reason why I zoomed in on shots during some scenes, was because in some parts of the film key details of the car could only be properly visible within that scene if the camera was zoomed in on it. The reason why this was effective in most scenes is because it allows me to have my film to have multiple angles and shot lengths for specific scenes. Also I did this inside of my actors car to get different shots and details of the lights that go off when the car is running.

Evaluating feedback

With the feedback that I have been given. The improvements that I will do in my film is attempt to make the tempo of my actors more clear as according to one It was as clear. The reason why some of the volume was lowered was because the owner of the car decided to play music that is copyrighted, and I do not have the funds to include such audio. However, I will try and work on this suggestion and improve the audio. 

LO3: Evidence Of Editing The Footage

 Configuring Footage 

For creating my film the first thing I did was create an online edit. To do this I used Adobe Premiere to put my unedited footage in order. This took little time, as most shots were done in one take. This would help me find out what needs cutting or removing entirely for my film. It would also allow me to see where I can edit parts of the video.

As soon as I had done my offline edit for my film, I soon realised there was a lot of footage that needed cutting or editing. This included different shots of the film that needed taking out, the audio of my actors needed enhancing, and the music being in the car to be lowered or taken out entirely. The part of the film that was re done a lot was the first scene, as I changed the script a lot during these scenes, while also allowing my actors to go off script to get genuine reactions from the other actors to make the scenes as realistic as possible. 

The timeline for my offline edit was already in a less complicated order. This is mainly because my film did not require any other additional sounds or special effects during any scenes.

For the timeline on the offline edit is not in any sort of mess as, the audio and footage are already put together. The reason this was effective, was because I could just import the clips and not have to arrange over 10 different footages to match one scene. 

Final edit Timeline 

The timeline for my final edit of the film includes all the additional sounds that were added into the film,  such as the introduction music, and the vocal enhancer and the background sound remover. However, there were a lot of disadvantages with the editing, as most scenes had to cut in some shots which I had to be precise about, this meant a lot of cutting and importing happened within every new scene. Another issue I ran into with editing was the Audio and speech. This was because I had to first unlink the audio from the visual footage, then export it to adobe audition, to then use speech enhancers and background noise removers. Then I added it back to Premier where I had to once again use background noise remover. 

Cinematography 

Once I had done the film, there was not much editing that needed to be done to the footage, as having it outside meant I only needed to change the brightness and saturation of some of the scenes. The reason why this was these were the only parts I had to edit, was because natural lighting from the sun, ending up darkening some of the scenes. Because all my scenes were done in one day, I did not have to worry about lighting being different in some scenes, as most of it should be around the same, as we only travelled around areas such as Brampton and Wath which are relatively close together. 

Sound 

The reason why I edited the sound in my short film was either due to the audio being too quiet or sounds that were not needed to be included in my film. I used both Premiere and Adobe Audition to edit and extract my sounds. 

I used Adobe Audition to separate the vocals of my actors from the music being played inside of the car. Once I had done that I would import that audio back onto Premiere and use other additional tools such as the De-nouse and compressor to remove any last parts of sound not needed. 

By doing this my audience will be able to hear my actors a lot more clear, so they can understand what is happening in some of the scenes.
