L02: Explain How Meaning is Created Within The Film

 The style of my film is heavily based around dialogue, as i want my actors to express their opinions vocally on what is happening around them. The only time i will use any additional sounds such as music would be at the introduction and the end of the film. However, using editing and transitions, will also be important to the film as a lot of the scenes are going to need to be cut. 

Music and Sound 

For the music to my film, i made a minute long instrumental British punk rock introduction. The reason why i chose to make my introduction in this style, was because i took inspiration from the introduction of Top Gear, as the song they chose linked to their target audience, as the song 'Jessica' was made in the 70s by the rock band 'The Allman Brothers' which as a media student would give u a clear view that the show is for British males in their late 40s who grew up listening to classic rock. 

However, since mine takes a more Punk Rock side, it makes it clear that i want my audience to be both male and female audiences from the early 00s who would  have grown up with that style of rock either from the radio or CD'S. 

The editing done to my music introduction was by adding a fade into the end of the short instrumental, as it makes the ending more smooth rather than just stopping randomly, it also allows the audience to know when the show will actually start, as they will hear the music slowly get quieter each second. 

At the credits i will use the last moments of the instrumentals, as it allows me to keep using the same sound to make it recognisable. The fade out tool will also still be effective as it can then be used again to let the audience know if they're still watching when the credit scene has ended. 

For the creation of the sound in my film, there was a lot to fix on. For example, i used Adobe Audition to try and weaken the background noise in my film and enhance speech. The reason why i did this was because in some of the car scenes, the music that the driver had playing was copy right protected, which meant i had to try and find ways to remove it. To do this i had to extract all the audio and try and separate speech from music. This did work as the music was toned down, but the voice of Bon Jovi himself was now at the same level of volume as the actors. After using audition, i then put the newly edited sound back on Premiere, and then used the compressor tool along with the De-noise tool, which then finally allowed me to only enhance the voices of my actors. 

Visuals   

Throughout the film there is no repeated scenes with the message and meaning of the film being clear within the first 6 minutes. The meaning of the film is to purely try and sell this car to one of the actors with one seller talking about how great the car is and the other explaining why you would not want the car. In the rest of the scenes we get to see the itself being driven but not by Chris since he legally cannot drive, which allows him to just sit back and watch the car he's about to purchase perform at its best.  

Another thing i did for the film was add in comedic moments within the film that will make the audience laugh, as i still wanted to add in some of the comedy side of Top Gear, as most of the actions done within the film is off script to make reactions genuine. This would keep the audience engaged with the film as they will be able to see the funny side of the short film combined with the main purpose. However, as most filming was done on road there was also a few things that were not supposed to happen in the film too that we can easily see. 

 

For example, some scenes had to get cut from the film, either from bad camera angles, or jokes added into the film that would be deemed offensive to an audience. The reason why I did this was to keep the film itself slightly professional, along with not wanting to offend certain people or groups, that could either have the video taken down or a lawsuit. 

Text 

For the title of my film the font style was chosen on purpose to try and add a theme of sports, as the colour scheme is familiar to the Formula 1 colours, as i want to continuously keep linking my theme of cars to my film. However, the reason why this does not apply to my credits in the film is because they're only there for a small amount of time and are not a primary factor to my film as a whole. This was because it is only a short film with not much set needed as I did all of the production for the film.
